Book question

I bought Jasper Fforde's First Among Sequels the other day from Barnes and Nobel when I saw it on the discount table for 3 bucks. A long time ago I read The Eyre Affair and enjoyed it. I don't remember anything about it other than the fact that I enjoyed it. Has anyone out there read First Among? Is it ok to read it without the background of remembering the first book, or the other books in between? Is it any good?
