I am taking a writing class at Adult Ed. It's pretty fun, so far. I have written a grand total of nothing things. I just haven't felt like it, I guess. I think the problem is I sat down to write a story for class the other day.(Nothing is ever due. You just write when you can.) But, I didn't feel like writing. So. I paid bills. Played some games. read emails. Did my nails. Listened to the breeze. Checked my pulse. I am thinking when I set up writing like work, that's what's going to happen. Especially, when nothing is truly due. So, I am just going to set up time to write every day and then I will have things to bring in. That will make for interesting stories, and fun to do it. Now, if something were due each week I would just stay up late doing it. Pressure helps sometimes.
I don't know how much use the feedback from the class will be. A guy read a story called The Return yesterday. Now, the story itself wasn't bad. We heard 8 of the 29 pages. We found out that there is an architect who meets a woman in 1974 who has a husband who is missing in action. I guess the return is going to be the lady's husband returning and whatnot. But. My god. He loved adverbs. "She got up abruptly" "He said innocently" "She asked coquettishly" Every single sentence had an adverb. It was driving me crazy. CRAZY. But, perhaps I am just picky. Everyone else in the class seemed to love the story. Although, he was kind of weird. Most of the time after someone reads there is a discussion and people say what they think. He insisted on doing Question and Answers and he only talked to girls. "Ok. For this question how about the girl in black, Would you be attracted to the main character?" "The young girl sitting in the back, Do you think he is worth dating?" "Ok, this is for everyone. How about you - miss with the long black hair, Did you pick up on what i said in the prologue?" "no." "Well. Let me read it. 'Men don't usually have such deep feelings.'" "Oh. That's nice." "Yeah!" So, I didn't get to make an adverb comment. He seemed like a nice guy. He was older. He had jet black hair, but his beard was mostly white. And, he said he wrote this story in 1975. He decided to go back to it. Originally it was 11 pages and had 3 characters. Now, it is 29 pages and has 6 characters. He has been editing it based on the things he learned in the 3 sessions of the class. He just had an interesting way of using his discussion time that cracked me up. And, maybe i am wrong on the adverbs thing. The other person who read had an awesome story that I really enjoyed reading. It was set in 1348 and had nuns, and lepers, and immortal soldiers who killed people. And really, only an adverb here or there.
This game is fun. This game is HARD. This game is addictive! Try it out.
I don't know what I am doing this weekend. I will shoot for another hike. Those are fun. Maybe take pictures this time. I brought my camera last time, but forgot I had it with me. OH. Farmer's market. Maybe. I will get up early enough on Saturday to go. Farmer's Market is just as good for people watching as it is for buying farmer products. Everyone is there. Looking crazy! I don't think any good movies are playing. So, I don't want to see a bad movie. Jackass Number 2 looks funny. But, it will be just as funny at home. Oh, and maybe head over to the zoo. It has been a while since I have checked in on the penguins. And, as always going out to dinner is fun. So, I have options!
