On exercise
Sep. 29th, 2003 12:36 pmI have started to exercise more and more than I have in quite a long time. I don't feel dreadfully out of shape, but I don't think it would hurt to be in better shape. More importantly, my head feels about 229 times more clear after I swim in the ocean, or take a good hike. I don't think I could exercise in a gym, though. All of the other people there would be way too intimidating, and what I like about swimming or hiking is that the scenery changes and there's a good chance I am going to see something amazing at some point during the swim, or the hike. "My god! Look at that view, I can see my house, your house, and their house, plus those birds are below us. Way below us." "Dolphins! And seaweed! Dolphweed! FUN!"
So. I had a question about the whole process of exercise. I have found that my body is a big liar. It will lie and lie and lie until I stop. It will say "This burns! I can't go on! I'm too weak! Lie on the ground and stare at the sky. You should really stop, or your heart might explode! Stop stop stop." Before. I would just stop. Because, you are supposed to listen to your body. But, this weekend I kept going. And, I found out my body was faking it. It really could keep going. It could keep going all the way up THAT hill and two hills after it. How can I ever trust it again? When will I know when it's really tired, and when it is just faking to get some sky time? And really, if you can't trust your own body. Who can you trust?
The weekend was sort of sucky, until I took the hike. There's a good lesson, when things are going sucky go ride a bike or take hike, don't just sit there. Because, sitting there isn't helping, duh.
Speaking of not sitting there. I want to get back to the track, but I don't think racing is open again at Santa Anita til after the new year.
And, Hollywood Park just isn't as fun.
Man. This entry isn't going anywhere. I need to think of an interesting story to salvage this.
I was taking my hike yesterday, working my way up the hill, jumping from stone to stone, when I saw a older guy and a girl in the path talking while their dog went sniffing from branch to branch. They started walking again as I passed them, so I got to listen in on their conversation.
The guy pointed to a spot were the trail branched off and went down to a creek, "I can't tell you how many times we went down to the creek and smoked a bowl."
"Really? This is a great trail, I don't know why I have never taken it before."
"Yeah. You climb up this hill, and it opens up and you are slammed in the face with nothing but beauty. And, it's out of the way, a perfect place to smoke up."
"That makes sense. Have I told you about whats going on at my job? I think I told Mom."
"No. What's going on?"
"It's weird. They found out I smoke, so they are making things harder for me. Like. I am not allowed to take breaks anymore."
"No breaks? What do they do? They have to. That's the law."
"Well. I can take a break, but I can't go anywhere."
"What? Do they just tell you to stare at the wall or something?"
"No. I just can't go home. They are really weird. I wish they would fire me."
"Well. They aren't going to do that. They like having workers under 21. They don't have to pay you as much."
"It's not that."
"Yes it is. They have to pay them more."
"No. I know. It's just.. I don't know. She's weird. She doesn't like to fire people, she would rather do things to them to try and make them quit."
"Why don't you?"
"Huh? I don't want to let her win. I want to win."
"Woah! Watch it!", he grabbed her arm as she tripped and saved her from landing on her face.
