Hi July.
Well,
mandy_moon made me realize that I was subconsciously aching to post here. So, here I am.
Been doing some research on desks, and furniture and stuff like that because eventually I will be switching rooms and I want to set up a real live desk, instead of using the laptop all of the time. Anyway, in the process I have seen some really neat things. I even bought a book from the 70s about nomadic furniture. You can tell the book is from the 70s because. Well you can tell the book is from the 70s by the copy right notice. But, another way you can tell is the fact that one of the projects they have is how to build a child's car seat out of card board. I don't have a child, nor do I think it is legal to haul some kid around in a cardboard seat. I won't be making that car seat. But, I did like some of the other ideas. Just to see what it was like I did make a table base out of a cardboard box I was going to put into recycling. The book claims it can hold up to 400 lbs. I have it holding far less than that. It's still pretty neat. When I do it next time I will use something other than scissors. Box cutters, I guess? Plus, be more careful. Cuts hurt!
I'm probably just going to get some easy stuff from Ikea. It won't be a premade desk, but I doubt I will do any serious carpentry. Maybe I'll get a counter top and somehow attach it to file cabinets or something. But, if I did do carpentry I saw an extremely cool desk involving mortise and tenon joints. That's the kind of thing I would love to be able to make. This kind of carpentry does not involve glue or nails at all. You fit things together like Legos. If I ever come up with a project I will be doing something like that. It's neat.
I have been enjoying Twitter more than I thought I would. The only thing that bothers me is some jerk in Italy has my name and never even posts to it. I guess if I knew Italian I could write him and ask if he would be willing to give up his name. But, why would he be? He did get there first. Still. I think of ME as pricciar. Not some stranger. Anyway, it's fun to read the dumb funny stuff celebrities say. And, once in a while I say something funny, too. Well, I laugh at least.
I am housesitting in a couple of weeks. It should be fun. It invovles walking a dog and using a swimming pool. That's not a bad thing, I don't think. Hopefully not, at least.
I have seen a lot of really fun movies lately. Let's go through some of them.
I truly loved Scott Pilgrim vs The World. It was a movie worth the hype on all levels. Great music, great cinematography and great acting. I saw that on DVD.
Another comic book movie. This time on Netflix instant streaming was Kick-Ass. Incredibly good. The little girl in that was pretty much perfect. And, it was a fun story over all, as well.
Kick-Ass made me want to see X-Men:First Class, since they share a director. Well worth it. I wasn't super enthused about this movie when I first heard about it. I mean, X-Men 3 was so bad that I thought they would be better off just scrapping the whole thing and making a Strawberry Shortcake movie. But, when I heard Vaughan was the director my interest level started to rise. And, he did not let me down. Excellent comic book movie that also was able to do a good job portraying the 60s.
Bridesmaids wasn't just a funny comedy. I thought it was an actual good movie with a beginning middle and an ending. You know how some comedies sort of peter out, like they didn't know where to go with the outrageous idea? Bridesmaids doesn't do that. Good all the way through.
My friend from high school is performing at a bar downtown while I am housesitting. Hopefully, I will get the energy up enough to head out to go there. I've heard the CD and it is pretty awesome. He's been at different bars a couple of times, and I have never made it. Hopefully, this time I will be there.
I hope Google+ becomes a thing. I don't really care that much for Facebook. But, there are a lot of people on there that I like to keep in touch with. It would be great if a large number of them could switch over. I doubt all of my extended family will ever make the switch. So, I'm stuck with Facebook for awhile. But, if Google+ becomes a fun place I would not complain. Plus, maybe it will make Facebook stop trying to bring the world back into the bad old days of AOL.
Oh. I really liked The Killing, until the last five minutes of the last episode. But, other than that it was a really well made fun to watch tv show. I couldn't figure out why people were calling it boring, but I also couldn't figure out why people were comparing it to Twin Peaks (other than geographic similarities.) Anyway. Great acting, some good writing, combined for a good show.
Haven't been reading much lately aside from a new stack of comic books. I do have a library card now, though. So, I guess I should fix that. OH! But, I did find the joy of comedy podcasts. I really like Mike and Tom eat snacks. If you have a need to listen to something funny look around for that.
Well,
